Workshops

Consumer Involvement in Research

An interactive workshop where participants will be presented with real case studies demonstrating successful consumer involvement. Presentations will be followed by an opportunity to workshop research projects in small groups with the aim to define the best strategy for involving consumers in each project. Numbers are limited and pre-registration is essential.

Emerging cancer research methods: From Inspiration to Intervention

Basic research methods are constantly evolving, influenced by clinical need and technological innovation. Examples that started in basic research but have moved to clinical application include high through-put gene expression profiling, which has now been applied to a broad range of precision medicine prognostic tools, and the adaptation of artificially cloned chimeric antigen receptor expressing T cells to targeting cancer cells. Focusing on five key areas of recent major development and uptake, participants will hear from a panel of experts describing their emerging research/technology area, explaining where it currently sits in the research translation continuum and discussing the pathway for translation of this approach to clinical application or the contribution it is most likely to make to healthcare delivery.

Regional health cancer research and care

Building capacity and collaboration in research can be challenging for clinicians and researchers in regional and rural settings. This interactive workshop will discuss and share ideas for research projects that will improve cancer patient outcomes for those living in regional and rural areas, with small groups developing a research question and brief plan for select ideas. These will be then shared with the larger group , providing an opportunity for potential future collaboration and translational research projects.
